ROBERT SHAPIRO, President with Master Development and PETER FLINT, Director of Development for the Southeast Region with Kimco Realty, were the guest speakers at the April 15th Loan Committee luncheon to discuss their newest project. Commercial real estate professionals had a chance to see the newest products offered by several premier lending institutions at the 2nd Annual LENDERPALOOZA event held at the RCA Auditorium on May 16, 2014. NOVEMBER 22, 2013

LARRY J. BEHAR, Esquire, with Behar Law Group, was the keynote speaker at the November Loan Committee networking luncheon at the Tower Club. Author of “EB-5 United States Immigration through Investment”, Mr. Behar, addressed one of the few remaining options in bank financing for creative U.S. developers.  The EB5 (Employment Based Fifth Preference) concept was created by the Immigration Act of 1990, and offers a visa opportunity for immigrant investors.  This visa provides a method of obtaining a green card for foreign nationals who invest money in the United States.

The Life Cycle of an SBA Loan was the topic at The Loan Committee luncheon held on July 19, 2013 at the Tower Club.  The panel included MIGUEL GONZALEZ, Assistant District Director of the SBA, MITCH FOGEL, Esq. with Fogel Law Group, JENI CHOKRON, VP with SunTrust Bank, RICK VON MINDEN, SBA Business Development Officer with TD Bank, and ALEJANDRO BUITRAGO with Florida First Capital Finance Corporation.  The presentation included a discussion of governments role and addressing lender and borrower concerns, the pre-underwriting and underwriting process, 7A and 504 eligibility requirements, documentation requirements for 504 loan approval, CDC’s role, and the closing process – obstacles and pitfalls.

JANUARY 18, 2013

DR. HUGH KELLY, Economist, was the keynote speaker at The Loan Committee breakfast held at the Tower Club on January 18, 2013.  Dr. Kelly presented “Beyond the ‘Cliff’ Notes” – America’s Economy and Real Estate Markets 2013.  Wealth Generation since 2009, a discussion of where institutional money fund capital has gone, and the secular downward trend in interest rates since 1995 were highlighted.  Dr. Kelly expects easy monetary policy for the next two years, even if job growth accelerates.  Click here to see Dr. Kelly’s presentation.

LORI PARRISH, CFA, Broward County Property Appraiser (BCPA) was the keynote speaker at The Loan Committee breakfast held at the Tower Club on November 16, 2012.  Mr. Dan Hafner, MAI, Commercial Senior Coordinator, and Mr. Robert Zbikowski, MAI, Commercial Senior Appraiser with the BCPA also addressed the group.  What to expect in 2013 and beyond based on trends over the last four years was discussed, as well as a discussion of recent changes (legal, etc.) that members of The Loan Committee should be aware of.  Attendees included south Florida lenders and commercial real estate professionals.
